What AI interview software is
Most hiring teams lose the same week over and over: a role opens, a few hundred people apply, and recruiters spend their days on 20-minute screening calls that mostly confirm what the resume already said. AI interview software takes that first conversation off the calendar. Every applicant gets an interview at a time that suits them, and the team reviews the results instead of running the calls.
The category is broad, and vendors use the same words for quite different products. The useful question is not "does it use AI" but "what does the candidate actually do, and what does my team get back".
Three formats, and where each fits
Almost every product on the market is a variation of one of these:
| One-way video | AI voice interview | Live conversational AI | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What the candidate does | Reads a question, records a video answer | Hears each question spoken, answers out loud | Talks with an AI that responds and follows up in real time |
| What the team gets | Videos to watch, sometimes AI summaries or scores | Recordings, transcripts and scores per answer | A transcript, recording and scores of the whole conversation |
| Strengths | Mature, familiar, easy to set up | Low pressure for candidates, consistent questions, fast review | Adaptive follow-ups, closest to a human screen |
| Watch for | Camera anxiety, reviewers judging presentation, long review time | No improvised follow-ups | Less consistency between candidates, higher cost per interview |
One-way video was the first wave. It is still a good fit when presentation is part of the job, but it asks a lot of candidates (camera on, no second takes in many tools) and a lot of reviewers, who end up watching hours of footage. People reviewing video also tend to react to lighting, backgrounds and delivery, which have nothing to do with the job.
AI voice interviews keep the structure of one-way video but drop the camera. The candidate hears each question and answers in their own words. When every candidate for a role gets the same questions, answers line up neatly for comparison, which is what a structured interview is meant to do.
Live conversational AI holds a real-time back-and-forth and can probe a vague answer. That is useful, but the interview changes from candidate to candidate, which makes scores harder to compare and harder to defend. It also tends to cost more per interview.
How Infyva works
Infyva is an AI voice interview tool. Our interviewer is called Nova. A typical role looks like this:
- Start from the job description. Infyva writes role-specific questions from the job description, and from the resume if you add one. Generated questions are related but not identical between candidates; on Pro and Enterprise, switch the job to a fixed question bank if you want every candidate to get exactly the same interview.
- Invite candidates. They open the link in a browser, check their microphone and take the interview when it suits them. No app, no scheduling.
- Nova asks, the candidate answers. Each question is spoken aloud. Each answer is recorded on its own and transcribed.
- Scoring at report time. Each answer is scored against the job's competencies with a written explanation. A competency score cannot sit more than 15 points above the answer it cites, so the headline cannot run far ahead of the evidence. Under three answered questions, the report says there is not enough evidence to recommend anything.
- Integrity notes, tied to the answer. Leaving the tab, pasting, and an optional face presence check (counted in the browser, with the candidate's consent) are recorded against the answer they happened on, so you can play it back and judge.
- People decide. Recruiters review, share a report link that hiring managers open without an account, and move candidates through a six-stage pipeline: Applied, Screened, Interviewed, Offer, Hired, Rejected.
Nova comes in ten profiles: a general one and nine role specialists (engineering, healthcare, customer-facing, field and frontline, skilled trades, product, design, education, and content and marketing), each with its own question style and default scorecard. See how that plays out for customer support, operations and logistics, sales and software engineering.
What Infyva does not do
It does not hold a live conversation today, it does not score faces, emotions, accent or tone of voice, and it does not make hiring decisions. It does not have a SOC 2 report or an independent bias audit yet. Our AI and fairness page explains exactly what is and is not evaluated.
A buyer's checklist
Whichever tool you look at, these questions separate the solid products from the demos:
- Where do the questions come from? Generated from your job description, picked from a library, or written by you? Can you lock a fixed set?
- What exactly is scored? Ask for a written list of what the model evaluates and what it ignores. If the vendor scores video, voice tone or facial expressions, ask why that is job-related.
- Can you see the evidence behind a score? You should be able to go from any number to the answer that produced it, and listen to it.
- How are integrity signals handled? A flag should point to a moment you can review, not silently lower a score.
- Who makes the decision? Tools that auto-reject candidates carry more legal and fairness risk than tools that inform a person.
- Compliance. If you hire in New York City, read our Local Law 144 guide. Ask each vendor whether an independent bias audit exists and what candidates are told before the interview.
- Candidate experience. Take the interview yourself on a phone and on a laptop. Time it.
- Pricing you can predict. Per seat, per interview or unlimited? Are unfinished interviews charged?
- Fit with your stack. ATS sync, calendars and team chat. Infyva connects to Greenhouse (Pro and Enterprise), Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Calendar, Outlook.
If you are weighing specific vendors, we have written factual comparisons with HireVue, Spark Hire and Ribbon, including where each of them is stronger than we are.
What it costs
Infyva plans include a set number of interviews (a credit is used when an interview completes), not seats, and your whole team gets access. Every account starts with 10 free interviews. Starter is $49 a month for 25 interviews, Pro is $199 a month for 125 and adds Greenhouse, resume matching and coding rounds, and Enterprise is priced with our team. An interview the candidate does not finish never uses a credit. Full details are on the pricing page.
Frequently asked questions
What is AI interview software?
Software that runs a first-round interview without a person on the other side. It asks the questions, captures the answers and gives the hiring team something structured to review, usually a transcript, a summary and scores. Products differ mainly in format: recorded video answers, AI voice interviews, or a live back-and-forth with an AI interviewer.
Does Infyva decide who gets hired?
No. Infyva does not advance or reject anyone. A person at the hiring company makes every decision, with the recording, transcript and written reasoning behind each score in front of them. Candidates can also ask for a human review.
How does Infyva score an interview?
Each transcribed answer is scored against the competencies for the job, with a short explanation. A competency score cannot sit more than 15 points above the answer it cites as evidence, so a headline number cannot run far ahead of what the candidate actually said. If a candidate answers fewer than three questions, the report says there is not enough evidence for a recommendation.
Does Infyva analyze faces, tone of voice or accent?
No. Scores come from what the candidate says. Appearance, facial expressions, emotion, accent and tone of voice are not evaluated. The optional face presence check only counts whether one person or more is in view, runs in the browser, and appears as an integrity note for a person to judge, never as a score.
Is the Infyva interview a live conversation?
No. In the standard interview Nova asks each question aloud and the candidate answers in their own words, at a time that suits them. Live conversational AI interviews are not offered today.
How much does Infyva cost?
Every account starts with 10 free interviews, one time, with no card. Starter is $49 a month for 25 interviews, Pro is $199 a month for 125 interviews and Enterprise is priced with our team. Only completed interviews use a credit: if a candidate does not finish, the credit goes back.
